This year's United Nations Day coincides with the UAE's 50th anniversary of joining the international organisation, according to Mageed Yahia, UN Resident Coordinator ad interim for the UAE and WFP Director in the UAE and Representative to the GCC. This highlights the UAE's significant role in hosting international organisation offices in the country.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the occasion, Yahia said that the UAE is home to close to 30 UN organisations that collaborate closely with the UAE government in a number of key areas. She also said that all UN sub-offices in the UAE work to strengthen partnerships with the GCC nations so that they can gain from their global efforts, particularly in humanitarian and development work in many parts of the world.

He emphasised that this event serves as a timely reminder of the crucial role the United Nations has played in fostering a culture of peace and security and achieving development despite the challenges facing the world.

He also emphasised the need for concerted efforts to achieve sustainable development goals by the year 2030, saying that since the United Nations Charter was signed in 1945, serious work has continued to be done to achieve security, peace, and development throughout the world, particularly with regard to the problems of conflicts and wars.
